Ruapekapeka Today

A new partnership forged between the Crown and the hapu in recent years ensures that Ruapekapeka is now protected and the site’s values and history are promoted for future generations.

Managing the site
Ruapekapeka has suffered a history of neglect. Today, DOC, Te Ruapekapeka Trust, contractors, and volunteers maintain the site. Learn about the management history and view photos of the work carried out in recent years.

Find out about the major development of the site in 2003 that completely transformed the visitor experience. Other projects focus on oral history, restoration of the carronade, geophysical and archaeological research, and virtual interpretation.
