Welcome

Over Christmas and New Year 1845/6, a battle was raging: the final chapter of the War of the North.

Here, an alliance of Māori stood up against the might of the British Empire. They were not defeated. Welcome to the remarkable story of the Battle of Ruapekapeka.

Blood has been spilled on this land. Please show respect for this wāhi tapu (sacred) place and don’t bring any food beyond the picnic table near the car park.
